Indonesia and Sri Lanka are set to initiate negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA), as announced by Indonesia’s ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dewi Gustina Tobing recently.

The revelation came during a bilateral trade and investment discussion organised by the National Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (NCCSL) at the National Chambers Auditorium.

Ambassador Tobing underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to boost bilateral trade between the two nations. Additionally, Prof. Jayanath Colombage, Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Indonesia & ASEAN, and Heshani Kaushalya, second secretary (commercial), participated virtually.

Colombage provided insights into market conditions and potential sectors for investment in Indonesia during the bilateral session.

Ambassador Tobing delivered a presentation on the status of the bilateral trade and potential market opportunities in Indonesia. She emphasised the need for enhancing economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, shedding light on trade, investment, and export-import prospects.

The event facilitated open discussions, allowing participants to engage with the Indonesian ambassador and her officials, exploring trade and investment possibilities in Indonesia.

The National Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (NCCSL) plans to organise follow-up sessions to foster business connections between the two countries, aiming to further strengthen economic ties and facilitate mutually beneficial trade and investment ventures.
