Textile sector expansion thru Garment parks

West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC) has plans to set up garment parks in the city to make use of opportunities and expand in clothing sector after cancellation of quota system.

A joint venture garment park is planned at Howrah in association with a private investor.

The project at Santoshpur was on the point of completion and plots will be sold off, said WBSIDC Chairman J M Hassan.

Embroidery & Garments Hitech Manufacturing Association (EGMA) has plans to set up a garment park and mart in two acres of land at Baranagar at North 24 Parganas, said Alok Goswami, President EGMA.

Garment traders and manufacturers of Burra Baazar have plans to shift their manufacturing unit there, he informed.

Public sector banks have also started to forward credit to these garment units.
