Industry Minister Nizami call on European buyers to import more

Industries Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami on Monday said the European buyers not to be worried about the circumstances in Bangladesh garments industry and call on to import more goods (garments) from here.
Pointing towards the collapse of Spectrum Garment Industry building as an first case, Nizami informed that such incident had never happened in the country in past.
Nizami was addressing talking to a two-member international purchaser Pierre Schmitz and BSCI project director Lorenz Berzau, delegation of Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), a European trade body at his office here.
BSCI, is an scheme of Brussels based organisation Foreign Trade Association (FTA). It aims to boost social performance in supplier countries through a uniform social standard monitoring solution for the retail, industry and import sectors.
Nizami said the government has taken a variety of measures to maintain protected working environment including fire safety in all garments factories with the help of Bangladesh Garments Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Pierre Schmitz opined, the European buyers and consumers are extremely worried about the safety situation existing in Bangladesh garments industry. They want to know in details what steps are taken by the government stop such building collapse.
The delegation is scheduled to meet the Commerce Minister, leaders of BGMEA, RAJUK and other related organizations to seek the realeal reason on this issue.
