At the upcoming IAF World Apparel Convention, hosted by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), the focus will be placed on “Asia: An Emerging Consumer Market from Global Production Base”.

There are four sessions to be presented under the theme, including Trade Liberalization vs. Barriers, Asia Market: Risks & Opportunities, Capacity Growth vs. Profitability, and Technological Development and it's Application to Production and Marketing.

IAF and TTF are proud to announce that, among other nationalities of course, a distinguished American speaker will also share his expertise regarding apparel related topics.

Kevin Burke, President and CEO of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) will be speaking in depth about the topic “Trade and The Global Apparel Industry: Why Trade is Good”.

The growth of international trade has helped the global economy in ways that the apparel industry exhibits every day. Imports allow consumers access to a wider variety of goods at more affordable prices.

As life's necessities – like clothes - become more affordable and demand less of the average family's household income, consumer spending grows and, in turn, propels the economy to new highs.

While trade may be portrayed as the scapegoat for manufacturing job losses in the United States and other countries, one must examine the whole picture and acknowledge the well-paid jobs being created in the dynamic apparel industry and its supporting industries because of trade growth as well as the millions of apparel manufacturing jobs being created in developing countries worldwide – workers that will soon become consumers.
