Market research firm Verdict has informed its research findings show retailer Next lapping up children's wear market share by more than double that of its competitor Marks & Spencer.
Next's will reach the pole as market leader with 11.3 percent of UK children's wear sales, barely three years after toppling M&S, which holds 5.2 percent of the market.
Already, Asda with 8.1 percent, Tesco at 6.7 percent and Woolworth with 5.4 percent have pushed back M&S way behind in terms of market share.
Incidentally, this year is forecast to be slowest year of growth for children's wear since year 2001 running parallel with lower birth rate growth for 2005, which will also hit the infants wear market.
Backed by quality and competitive pricing, Asda and Tesco have penetrated deep in the children's wear market.
As per Verdict, following trend will be noticeable in the Children's wear Retailers 2005:
* Non-children's wear specialist jumped in this segment.
* Passive performance of Children's wear retailer allowed adult wear retailer to encroach the market.
* Challenges to drive spend per head to support market growth.
