US footwear company Skechers is planning to open about 400 more exclusive outlets in India in five years. It operates 100 exclusive outlets in the country, a mix of company-owned and franchises. Skechers, which entered India in 2012 through a joint venture with the Future Group, is also looking at launching apparel and accessories collection by 2018.

The company will add between 25 to 35 more outlets by end of this year, Skechers South Asia Pvt Ltd CEO Rahul Vira told a news agency. The company had tested the market for its apparel line with a small range as part of a pilot.

The company, which follows the calender year as its financial year and fully imports all its products, estimates sales of over Rs 500 crore by the end of this year. It had reported sales of over Rs 220 crore in India last year.

The company may explore options of manufacturing locally once it reaches a certain scale and size in the country, Vira added. (DS)
