Amazon India bullish in Uttar Pradesh, to expand network
Global e-commerce giant Amazon is bullish on the Uttar Pradesh market in India both on the customer and vendor sides and will continue to invest in expanding its fulfillment and delivery network in the ‘critical locale’ state to support the rapid growth there, according to Akshay Sahi, Amazon India director and head of its Prime programme.

Amazon has set up two large fulfilment centres (FCs) in the state, including a specialised captive unit for handling large appliance and furniture products, according to a report in the Business Standard newspaper.

Amazon has a strong delivery network in the state with five Amazon-owned delivery stations, 40 service partner nodes and more than 400 ‘I Have Space’ store partners.

It also has 20,000 sellers in the state, of which 2,500 are based in Lucknow alone. Many of these seller hawk products under the Amazon Prime programme, a subscription-based programme launched in India in 2016 that offers shopping and entertainment benefits to members.

Prime has subscribers in Lucknow, Agra, Gorakhpur, Moradabad and Varanasi with popular product categories including pantry, beauty, grocery, smartphones and apparel, said Sahi.

Meanwhile, Amazon wants to help the state’s ethnic and traditional industries to expand their national and international reach through its online platform. (DS)
