The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Technical Education to produce skilled operators for the readymade garments (RMG) industry. The RMG industry accounts for 83 per cent of total export earnings of Bangladesh and employs nearly 4 million people.Under the MoU, BGMEA in collaboration with Directorate of Technical Education will implement the Skill and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) where young people will be given training in garment sewing and knitting.
BGMEA vice president (Finance) Mohammed Nasir and project director of STEP ABM Azad signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in presence of BGMEA president Md. Siddiqur Rahman.
