US based producer of advanced materials using biotechnology, Bolt Threads will unveil a limited edition knit necktie made of 100 per cent Boltspun spider silk at the SXSW 2017 trade show. The silk for the necktie has been produced by humans using the company's proprietary technology and is a culmination of seven years of research and design.

"Over the past seven years, a team of dozens of scientists, engineers, technicians, and designers has worked tirelessly to get us to this milestone," Dan Widmaier, CEO at Bolt Threads said. "We're proud and excited about this achievement and what it means for the future of textile production."

Through its proprietary technology, Bolt Threads has developed a way to closely mimic silk created in nature for mass commercial production, pioneering more sustainable and non-toxic processes for textile manufacturing. (AR)
