The first library resource centre, a multimedia library containing books and digital resources, has been opened at the Japan Rocks garment factory in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ), Cambodia for the career advancement of the factory workers, according to reports in the Cambodian media.

The Japan Rocks garment factory library is the first library under a project initiated by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the NGO Sipar. Total 18 such libraries will be opened across Cambodia under this project by mid-2017.

Commenting on the importance of the project, the management at Japan Rocks stated that the library will increase the education level among workers, which will eventually improve their performance in the factory.

This is an opportunity for the workers to increase their knowledge on work areas other than textiles, according to local analysts.

Besides the project, the NGO Sipar has opened three libraries prior to the library resource centre at Japan Rocks in other garment factories of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. (MCJ)
