The council is also hopeful of stable exports for 2017 and is planning to explore new markets in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), said Kumar. MSG is an intergovernmental organisation, composed of the four Melanesian states of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, and the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front of New Caledonia. MSG promotes economic growth among Melanesian countries.
The garment factories in Fiji have already invited applications for various positions ranging from machinist to workers, according to a Fijian leading daily. It is difficult to meet the deliveries on time as the workers who go for leave around Christmas and New Year do not come back when the factories reopen, said Kumar. Finding skilled labour remains a challenge in our industry, he added. (RR)
