Global retailer of innerwear and apparel HanesBrands has voluntarily disclosed its carbon emissions and related information for the CDP 2016 Climate Change Report and in the process earned an above average score of B. The retailer has been voluntarily reporting its emissions data since 2010 to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its report.

According to Hanes, it posted better performance in the 2016 report than the apparel industry average in all CDP reporting categories like governance and strategy, risk and opportunity management, emissions management and verification.

The company primarily achieved its CDP score for its transparency and by managing emissions, implementing best practices and taking coordinated action on climate-change issues.

Since 2007, Hanes has reduced energy consumption by 25 per cent, carbon emissions by 21 per cent, and water use by 31 per cent. It has also established renewable energy sources for 25 per cent of its worldwide energy needs. (AR)
