Among the Asian countries, imports from China stood at 1,943.643 billion yen ($17.59 billion), a slight increase of 0.1 per cent year-on-year, the data showed.
During the year, Japan imported apparel and accessories worth 177.180 billion yen ($1.60 billion) from the EU, up 10.5 per cent year-on-year. The Far Eastern country also imported 13.427 billion yen ($121.53 million) worth of clothing and accessories from the US, same as last year.
Meanwhile, the value of Japan’s import of textile yarn and fabrics increased 4.6 per cent year-on-year to 967.563 billion yen ($8.76 billion) during the period under review. A bulk of these imports valued at 858.209 billion yen ($7.77 billion) were supplied by the countries in the Asian region, with China alone accounting for 526.824 billion yen ($4.77 billion), while imports from Asean nations stood at 208.958 billion yen ($1.89 billion).
Japan imported yarn and fabric worth 67.104 billion yen ($607.36 million) from the EU countries, whereas its imports from the US were valued at 24.435 billion yen ($221.16 million) last year. (RKS)
