Japanese zipper manufacturer YKK Corporation recently started operating its second Vietnamese plant in the Dong Van III industrial zone in Ha Nam province to boost production without disclosing the scale of expansion. It had planned to increase production capacity by 40 per cent by fiscal 2020-21 compared with the 2016-17 figures, the company said in September.

YKK Vietnam Co., YKK’s local arm, set up the plant some 40 kilometres south of Hanoi with a total investment of $59.9 million, YKK said a in a statement.

Adding to the existing plant in the southern province of Dong Nai, the new 51,000-sq-m plant will shorten delivery time to garment makers in northern Vietnam, a Japanese new agency reported citing the company statement.

The development is also expected to respond to the increasing trend for garment production to be shifted from China to Vietnam.
