Kenya’s Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC) is manufacturing 30,000 face masks daily and is also making personal protective equipment (PPE) as the country faces an acute shortage of such items. KICOTEC is among the local companies identified by the government to ease the shortage. The centre has employed over 350 workers, Kitui governor Charity Ngilu said.

KICOTEC is now ensures a market for domestic cotton farmers. The re-opening of RIVATEX will address the gap of material shortage locally, she was quoted as saying by Kenyan media reports.

More young people are also planned to be skilled in textile factory work.
