A garment manufacturing factory in Namibia’s Keetmanshoop, constructed at a cost of N$10.9 million in 2016, will start operations this year. It is one of the three garment projects by the Namibia Development Corporation aimed to help former workers of the defunct Ramatex garment factory and local women. The factory has not been used since it was constructed.

The other two garment factories are in Windhoek and at Ongwediva, according to Namibian media reports.

During her fourth state of the region address recently, !Kharas region governor Lucia Basson said the factory will be commissioned in July or August this year. Keetmanshoop is the capital of !Kharas region. The factory will produce school uniforms and other garments, said Basson.

She thus urged all government institutions, factories and mines to procure at least 20 per cent of their protective clothing, school uniforms and other garments from the factory. (DS)
