To meet the uniform requirements of around 40,000 strong workforce of the Sri Lankan Civil Defence Department, a new garment factory has been set up in Rambewa, the Ministry of Defence announced on its website.
The venture which is run by Civil Defence personnel will help to reduce cost and wastage and improve the quality of finished products, the Defence Ministry said. Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarchchi who inaugurated the factory, commended the Department for taking the initiative to produce its own uniform requirements. Sharing his past experiences in the garment industry, he said that garments can be produced at low cost in the country. (SH)
