Speaking about the Indian market for sustainable textile products, Mr Petchers reveals, “We’re just at the beginning of fair trade textile markets here in India so it’s a bit early to talk about market size and growth rate.
“However, consumer research by IMRB, Edelman, and MasterCard found that an overwhelming majority of Indian consumers surveyed, would choose products associated with a cause and even pay a bit more for them.
“Globally, the market for fair trade certified products is over US$6 billion annually. We have some work to do to get to that level but Indian consumer response to the concept thus far is encouraging”, he adds.
Ms Chibber adds, “The Indian market is a growing market and as incomes rise, it has been noticed globally that customers are drawn towards ethical buying where the merchandise is also great”.
