The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has informed that approximately 3 800 clothing workers in Newcastle have down tools since Monday 08 October 2012. These workers are from 35 companies and earn between R250-R400 per week. Workers are on strike demanding a R45 increase.

The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) will continue the fight for a decent wage.

SACTWU is the biggest union in the clothing, textile and leather industry in South Africa, with 99 000 members at the end of June 2010. This allows Sactwu to represent members more effectively. We negotiate wages for the vast majority of workers in the clothing, textile and leather industry, and our agreements cover more than 100 000 workers.
