Mr. Yohan Lawrence, chairman of Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SAEA), told fibre2fashion, “Sri Lankan clothing exports for this year are likely to remain at last year’s level.”
“According to official data, Sri Lanka’s garment exports were down by 7 percent till November 2012,” he informs.
Talking about the expansion plans of Sri Lankan apparel exports to emerging countries, he says, “We are looking for new destinations in clothing exports but it is difficult to find a market which has as big a market size as the US and the EU.”
“However, we may receive few garment export orders diverted from China due to the countries high production costs, but it would not be very large,” he opines.
When asked about diverted orders from Pakistan, he said, “I do not think that we have received any shift orders from Pakistan and the country is mostly exporting denim and socks, which are not manufactured in Sri Lanka.”
