With a budget of 120 million baht a Centre of Excellence and a pilot plant is envisaged to produce world-class apparel at low cost scheduled to be operative by March next.
Textile and Garment Development in Efficiency and Technology (T-Det) project has put forward this proposal.
T-Det is to provide expertise and techniques to help its 200 members to achieve sustainable growth by July informed Kartchai Jamkajornkeiat, Executive Director of T-Det.
Experts from Europe and the United States would be employed to consult on production engineering, pattern making, product design and marketing strategy, for centre of excellence.
The experts would empower service users to transform into excellent garment makers, said Mr Kartchai.
The pilot plant would require a budget of 60 to 70 million baht for construction and equipping it with world class machinery which individual manufacturers are unable to acquire.
These machines can be used to value add to their products, like zig-zag stitches and various other forms of value additions.
Centre of Excellence and pilot plant will be able to attract returns between 10 to 20 percent on investment, he said.
About 400 garment manufacturers would have the opportunities to avail the services of the Centre of Excellence and pilot plant every year, said T-Det.
