US seeks increased apparel imports

The US is has expressed strong desire to increase imports from Pakistan.

Pakistan Ready-made Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) informs that a 15-member US delegation that visited the Expo 2006, organized talks with the Pakistani exporters and concluded many deals.

Exports to the US could be drastically raised by improving quality as well as cost of the products.

The US is Pakistan's largest trading partner and accounts for 25 percent of the country's garment imports.

Events like the Expo 2006 are expected to generate higher garment exports.

Pakistani textiles also had great potential to develop its US market, which currently totals up to about $5 billion.

The US apparel market is worth $170 billion and is one of the most competitive one in the world.
