Gap Inc picks Denise Johnston as President, Gap Adult

Gap Inc, the world's largest specialty apparel retailer, announced that Denise Johnston is joining the company as President of Gap Adult.

Johnston will oversee all aspects of Gap women's and men's apparel and accessories, and she will report to Gap Brand President Cynthia Harriss.

Denise is an exceptional leader and gifted merchant with a remarkable eye for product, and fortunate to have her join our team leading this important segment of business, said Ms. Harriss.

With Denise heading up the Gap Adult business, she joins a terrific team of brand leaders including Tom Wyatt, President of GapBody, and Pamela Wallack, Executive Vice President of GapKids, babyGap and Gap Maternity.

Johnston joins Gap from Liz Claiborne Inc, where she served as President & Chief Merchandising Officer for the Better & Moderates division, responsible for design and merchandising for the wholesale division which includes: Emma James, JH Collectibles, Intuitions, Tapemeasure, Liz Claiborne Apparel and City Unltd. brands.

Prior to her current post, she was President of Liz Claiborne Apparel, where she oversaw functional areas of the Liz Claiborne Apparel Organization including design, planning, merchandising, sales and marketing.

Johnston's career spans more than 25 years in the apparel business. She was president of Cricket Lane and Melrose divisions of Koret of California, and has held management positions at Carole Little, Bullocks, Neiman Marcus and Dayton-Hudson Inc.
