Buttons in shortage even as imports surge 110%

05
May '06
Garment industry imported buttons worth US $6 million during January-February period this year, for domestic production, representing year-on-year growth of nearly 110 percent.

Japan takes the top spot among button suppliers making up for the 29 percent of the total buttons import turnover of Vietnam.

Major share of button imports come from other Asian countries also.

Vietnam's domestic industry is forced to import most materials required for garment production due to shortage prevailing in the local industry.

Government run textile enterprise Vinatex is drafting several projects to help revive domestic sector during 2006-2010.
