Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) desire to set up two split garment villages in the port city, is being considered by Chittagong Development Authority (CDA).
Campaign to establish garment villages in Monsurabad and Mohara areas over 114 acres of land to house as many factories as possible of the leading revenue earning segment of the country is being chalked out by CDA.
As soon as CDA gets endorsement from the government the authority would begin the procedure of establishing two garment villages reported sources.
Sources say best infrastructure amenities have been proposed which would help put together the readymade garments (RMG) sector a more productive one and draw enormous investments.
CDA campaigned against garment units situated in the residential areas and ordered owners of those units to shift to the industrial zones due to the recent fire at KTS warehouse.
Consequently, BGMEA leaders called on the CDA chairman and planned setting up of garment villages in Chittagong.
The proposal forwarded by CDA to the concerned authorities has drawn optimistic response from the ministry, sources said.
