Footwear exports to S.Africa up 22%

Ministry of Trade reported that footwear exports to South Africa fetched around $6.7 million in the first four months of 2006, representing year-on-year growth of 22 percent.

Sports sneaker and knitting–capped shoes topped as the most in-demand products.

During January-April 2006, exports revenue of sports shoes totaled $3.2 million, showing 35 percent rise over the same period, last year.

While exports of knitting–capped shoes earned over $2.5 million with an annual surge of 150 percent, leather–capped shoes yielded $800 thousand.

Made–in-Vietnam footwears, is placed at modest position as it share just four percent of the market share.

Vietnam is set to grab a larger share of the Africa's footwear market as their products are considered to competitive pricing advantage.

However, the industry requires to upgrade its quality as well as promotion and marketing skills, industry sources were heard quoting.
