Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has warned that it would shut down its factories indefinitely if conspirators who ransacked factories in Dhaka are not punished by the Government.
A closure deadline was given by S M Fazlul Hoque, BGMEA President, at a press conference held at the association's office after labourers damaged 100 factories in Dhaka and Gazipur.
He said miscreants vandalized seven factories completely and partly damaged 100 factories at Mirpur, Pallabi, Shamoli, Kafrul and Uttara after robbing machinery and official documents.
Hoque asked the Government to instantly deploy Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Bangladesh rifles and the army to control the situation. He accused conspirators of holding demonstrations and forcibly dragging workers out of factories for the rampage.
Hoque said conspirators wanted to shift the focus of $8 billion exports sector away from Bangladesh by shattering trust of customers. He added that Government must find out who was misguiding these people.
