Retail major Tesco decides to increase imports from Sri Lanka

At a confederation convened at the Tesco Head Office in Hertfordshire, UK's largest retailer Tesco decided to buy a range of Sri Lankan goods for its outlets throughout the U.K, Ireland, Central European Countries, Japan and South Korea.
Chairman of Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Brian Angunawela and Tesco's Sean McCurley, Category Director and Richard Bracher, Principal Director, Commercial Operations were present during the meeting.
Sri Lanka High Commissioner in the UK, Kshenuka Senevirathne along with Deeptha Kulathilaka, Counsellor Commercial remained present at the meeting.
Tesco officials have agreed to raise apparel imports from Sri Lanka from the present US $30 million to US $55 million during the current year.
The officials took the decision to buy apparels from Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) as they have been buying them only from large companies in Sri Lanka. However now, they would purchase from SMEs on the recommendation of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.
Meanwhile, Brian Angunawela confirmed that Tesco has agreed to pay attention especially to products manufactured by SMEs.
