The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) raised concerns over the plan of US to put restrictions on imports of garment from Vietnam on the request of some US senators.

Vitas has sent a letter to US President George W Bush for doing needful to withdraw measurements that will keep tab on exports from Vietnam.

This move will make adverse effect on the relationship between two countries, association added.

According to association, 90 percent of exports from Vietnam are garments which are no longer produced in US. Thus Vietnam's garment and textile sector does not pose any threat to the US textile industry.

These measures and rules of World Trade Organisation, of which both countries are members, will clash among, association said.
