As the chill of the winter season is back, the consumer demand for lightweight spring apparel for the time being has lessened.

Other reasons for the decreasing demand in the fashion segments are collapse of last week's stock market and increase in gasoline prices.

Retailers are scheduled to give reports of February same-store sales or sales from stores that have been opened for at least a year.

Several companies like Limited Brands Inc, JC Penney and Talbots Inc have warned of unsatisfactory results.

Wal-Mart Stores anticipates a modest same-store sales gain of 1 to 2 percent in February.

Upscale Saks Fifth Avenue official announced that it had a robust 24.7 percent gain in February same-store sales.

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has forecast a modest same-store sales growth of 2.5 percent to 3 percent.

According to ICSC's chief economist and director of research, Michael Niemira, the weather slowed consumer demand at the end of February.
