Apparel imports reach new heights

Apparel trade in November last year witnessed overall positive trend and reached new heights.

Apparel industry exports increased at the rate of 10.5 percent after sending shipment of 24,606 tons in November 2006.

Similarly, apparel imports stood at 44,794 tons with growth rate of nine percent during this period.

Moreover, year-to-date exports were 264,693 tons and imports were to 584,206 tons, a growth of 4.4 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively.

During this period, China emerged as top supplier after accounting for 40 percent of total imports.

However, Romania witnessed a noticeable decline in exports as November shipment declined by 15.2 percent and year-to-date by 11 percent at 40,483 tons.

In November, Bangladesh exports surged by 37 percent and 35.8 percent in year-to-date basis.

In January to November 2006, Indonesia's exports also increased by 90.8 percent at 12,344 tons.

Export growth to Russia also increased as it rose by 5.2 percent and year-to-date by 18.3 percent.
