European Union (EU) claimed that more detailed analysis was needed to decide whether to ban seal fur. The
EU is the largest buyer of seal fur that is usually obtained through inhumane methods of killing a baby seal harp.
"The Commission will conduct an in-depth and objective analysis of all existing scientific information relating to the animal welfare aspects of seal hunting in all respective range states," European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas said at a press meet.
Animal activists have persistently protested against the use of fur seal by fashion industry.
