Clothing exports on target in face of Chinese onslaught

Clothing exports have touched last year's first half yearly levels even as cheap Chinese imports have shown a huge increase.
This was conveyed by Magdi Tolba, President of the Cairo Cotton Center (CCC), last month.
He sais dramatic surge up to 1500 percent were registered in Chinese clothing exports and yet te country perormance was encouraging.
Tolba opined that local companies could make up for flat H1 sales this year to meet his forecast of 25 percent growth in garment exports to $1.06 billion by year end.
He also announced the begining of effort for the largest textiles exhibition in Egyptian history called "Heading to Egypt" which is slated for March 2006.
The domestic industry will get appropriate exposure as foreign buyers and fashion designers will come down to highlight the local textiles industry and place it on a global map.
