In October 2007, An Giang Province, located in the southwestern part of Vietnam, exported around 405 thousand garment products worth US $12 million, contributing to 4.3 millions pieces in the total export figures of January to October. This represented a year–on–year growth of 45 percent in volume and and 24 percent in value.
However, the textile and garment industry of Vietnam depends heavily on imports of raw material.
In the first ten months this year, garment enterprises in An Giang imported raw material necessary for finished goods worth US $9.2 million, which is equivalent to the 76 percent of total exports turnover.
