Sources from Vietnamese General Customs recently revealed that in October this year, country's textile and apparel industry exported 7.7 million shirts worth US $39.4 million. These figures show a growth of 38.5 and 43 percent, in terms of volume and value, respectively over same period 2006.
In the time period from January to October, total number of shirts shipped were 74.1 million pieces, which fetched a value of around $374 million, representing a year–on–year rise of 9.8 and 5 percent.
According local experts, such high growth in recent months are largely due to growing demand from the US market. This region alone absorbed 42.8 million pieces of shirts worth $196.6 million, showing a surge of 19 and 9 percent respectively.
However, slight drop can be observed in the EU market, down by almost 5 percent with business of 17.8 million pieces which generated revenue of $103.4 million.
The export price for shirts was fixed at $5.12 per piece FOB in October.
