Jean trousers exports turnover heave up

The General Department of Customs released a report showing that Vietnam exported 3,93,000 jean trousers worth US $3.1 million in the first month of 2008, representing a year–on-year rise of 623 and 726 percent respectively, in terms of both volume and value.

Japan remained the top sourcing country, importing nearly 2,03,000 pieces of jeans trousers, valued at $1.8 million, accounting for 59.7 percent of the total exports turnover.

During this month, Taiwan surpassed US consumers to become the second biggest importer for Made–in–Vietnam jean trousers.

The country fetched $5,49,000 from the exports of nearly 4,71,000 pieces. The figures rose by 71.9 percent in volume and 16.7 percent in value against similar period last year.

In the same line, data gathered from the US market show that Vietnam exported near about 1,27,000 pieces for $7,06,000 up by 43.2 and 50 percent respectively over corresponding period 2007.

The export prices quoted for the product during January this year, was $7.96 each piece, FOB, on average, posting a growth of 5.8 percent compared to December 2007 and up 14.4 percent over same period 2007.

Local experts forecast that such strong growth will be maintained in coming months as well.
