Statistics by Germany Federation Foreign Economy Information Bureau (BFAI) reveal that in 2007, Hong Kong imported clothes worth of US $1000 million from EU, representing over 19 percent increase as against 2006.

Garments from Italy, France and England accounted for $513 million, $208 million and $120 million, marking a growth of 29.55 percent, 13.04 percent and 10.09 percent, respectively.

Although the industrial products and cars made in Germany are very well-known in Hong Kong, fashion clothing industry lags behind other European countries. In 2007, Germany's clothes export to this Asian territory reaped in $95 million.

Hong Kong has become one the most favoured destinations for fashion enterprises, since it doesn't impose any duty on the import of clothes and many tourists from China Mainland and other surrounding countries purposely come here to purchase EU's niche brands. Last year alone, Hong Kong attracted about 15 million visitors from China Mainland.
