To spotlight even more facets on the industry, new categories for 2009 include "Coach of the Year," "Gym of the Year" and "Best MMA Journalist" to bring the total number to 19.

"We want something people look forward to and aspire to win, something that will be recognized every year as a celebration of everybody's efforts throughout the year. This year's nomination stage ends Oct. 5, and voters can cast ballots from a list of finalists until Dec. 5. Winners will be announced at a black-tie, red-carpet Dec. 30 awards ceremony at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event broadcasts internationally in January (possibly on a major cable network, though officials are still working on the deal).
