The garment manufacturers are demanding a release of Tk 2,000 Crore from the Tk 5,000 Crore textile revival fund to help them pay salaries and festival bonus, in view of the upcoming Id festival.

This was decided at a meeting of the members meeting of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which said that irrespective of the slowdown in orders, they would have to pay the bonus.

This measure could help those garment manufacturing units which are in serious problems due to the slowdown and help them tide through the festival period, lest which, the workers in these units could create trouble.

The members also suggested that the government should immediately release proceeds from the textile revival fund to around 270 sick units.
