A delegation of Bangladesh Knitwear manufacturers are keen to explore the markets of South Africa and neighbouring Botswana, for which they have planned a trip to the region, early next month.
According to statistics available on the website of state-run Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh exported woven and knitwear garments worth US$42.51 million to South Africa and $280,000 to the Botswana in fiscal 2008-09.
South Africa is considered a very potential destination, since, slowly the country is loosing its edge in manufacturing of textiles and garments in the last few years, due to which imports have picked up pace.
During the visit in South Africa and Botswana from October 4-10, they would sit with businessmen, trade bodies and garment buyers and give presentation on Bangladesh's RMG products and manufacturing strengths.
Currently, China is the major apparel supplier to the South African markets along with a small share of Mauritius and India. Bangladesh is also exploring possibilities of exploring the third biggest importer after US and the EU; Japan.
