Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has requested the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Monday, to give permissions for Duty Tax Remission (DTRE) within 24 hours, so that manufacturing in garment units may not be affected due to drop in fabric production.
PRGMEA chairman Bilal Mullah sent a fax to CBR Member customs Ramazan Bhatti expressing concern over the CBR's decision to eliminate fabrics from the list of duty-free import allowed to exporters.
He said the CBR under SRO 1065 had asked textile exporters to get them listed for the DTRE scheme for duty-free import of fabrics.
CBR's attempt would cause delay in exports and therefore delay in satisfying export orders for garments.
Mulla added that there were occasions of delays in receiving DTRE permission for duty-free import of accessories by registered persons.
He said garment exporters competing globally in the free-trade era under the WTO, and would not be able to withstand if they are unable to meet the tight delivery schedule of buyers.
