Following the appointment of new members of the Garment Industry Wages Council by the government, it is expected that the council will hold a meeting by the end of current year.
As the representatives of garment factory employers were not available, the council could not hold a meeting to decide proposed base wage rates for garment workers, informed Father Kevin Barr, Chairman the Garment Industry Wages Council.
Now, after the appointment of new council members, this issue will be resolved soon, he expected, underlining that the council will not allow garment employers to pay low wages, despite the fact that, garment units need to be competitive.
