"Our sector mainly focuses on ‘basic necessity’ and have periodical peak seasons. Therefore, while manufacturing has been temporality discontinued, we have not faced any cancellation issues. We are constantly in touch with our partners and business aggregators, and we hope to be able to handle the scenario strategically," Dollar Industries MD Vinod Kumar Gupta said in an exclusive interview with Fibre2Fashion.
The current Covid-19 pandemic has led to a grave global health and economic crisis. It has not only impacted human lives worldwide, but has also affected various manufacturing industries. However, for the apparel industry, it’s a mixed bag impact, according to Gupta.
"Since the apparel and textile industry is amongst the largest employers in India, the countrywide lockdown has resulted in temporary closure of manufacturing units. We are positive that once the lockdown is lifted, the markets are expected to return to normalcy in the next 12 months or so," Gupta said.
"The situation will be under control post lockdown and the industry is anticipated to cope up the losses during summer and wedding seasons," he added.
When asked for his suggestions to fashion brands/retailers on tackling the current crisis, he said: "The current situation is crucial across sectors and industries. While ‘social distancing’ is an important rule that one must follow, brands must support their manpower to get through these tough times.
"Further, in order to manage the situation effectively, brands can rework on their marketing and branding strategies to curb down the costs."
