  • The inaugural Global Apparel Conference in Humen united 1000+ participants from 20 countries, fostering international collaboration.
  • Key themes included technology, sustainability and cultural exchange, culminating in the "Night of Humen" fashion showcase.
  • The event's success confirms global cooperation, setting the stage for future conferences.

Under the motto "Together for a shared future", the first Global Apparel Conference took place from 16 to 18 November 2023 in the port city of Humen, Dongguang, Guangdong Province, at the invitation of the China National Textile and Apparel Council with over one thousand participants from organisations, industry associations and companies from almost 20 countries and regions such as Italy, France, the UK, Spain, Germany, South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Morocco, etc.

The global apparel industry is in a time of change and readjustment. The Global Apparel Conference focuses on international cultural exchange with the aim of finding solutions to common challenges facing the apparel industry worldwide and establishing long-term communication between participants, gathering insights, building consensus and deepening cooperation.

With an opening ceremony, two gala events, three themed forums and numerous side events, the Global Apparel Conference took place in Humen, Dongguan, China. In numerous events and themed forums, the participants shared their expertise and research findings on the current situation in the apparel industry and examined it from different perspectives. The agenda included the Science and Technology Forum, the Fashion Forum and the Sustainable Forum. Topics such as "From digitalisation to supply chain planning", "From fashion trends to cultural roots" and "From environmental protection concepts to production technologies" were discussed. Parallel events presented fabric innovations, the latest colour developments and creations and brand development.

Integration, cooperation and transparency are the key points on which the participants of the GAC plenary session unanimously agreed and which were published with the Global Apparel Conference Vision (Humen Vision). "Interdependence, openness and cooperation are essential for the future of the global fashion industry," said Riccardo Braccialini, president of Confindustria Moda from Italy, the guest country of the conference.

This meeting was attended by representatives of the industry associations Confindustria Moda from Italy, Moda España / Confederation of Spanish Fashion Companies, Spanish Textile and Fashion Observatory, AMDIE and AMITH from Morocco, Malaysian Official Designers' Association (MODA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Myanmar Garments Manufacturers Association (MGMA), Textile Apparel Footwear & Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (TAFTAC), Indonesian Textile Association, Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), Pakistan Textile Exporters Assocation, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA), Towel Manufacturers Assocation of Pakistan (TMA), Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS) with the organizer of the conference, the China National Textile and Apparel Council.

The brilliant show "Night of Humen" rounded off the conference and fascinated the audience with creations by the well-known designers Huang Guangchen & Guo He with FACEONLAB, Wang Yutao with Beautyberry and MOSSI by the Parisian designer Mossi Traore, who received the Pierre Bergé Fashion Prize in June 2020.

"In order to overcome the difficulty of joint development, international cooperation, openness and exchange are more necessary than ever. The successful start of the first Global Apparel Conference fortunately confirms the international willingness to cooperate transparently and allows us to look positively into the future. We will continue this initiative and look forward to the next event with even more global players in the industry participating," Sun Ruizhe, president China National Textile and Apparel Council.
