The Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan and opposition leader Oommen Chandy are among a number of celebrities in the state have considered to appear in a promotional campaign by the Kerala State Handloom Directorate for the state's traditional dhoti.
This promotional campaign will definitely increase the use of traditional handloom textile which is gasping for survival.
The campaign will also include education minister M.A. Baby, industry minister Elamaram Kareem and chief secretary Lizzie Jacob who will promote the virtues of dhoti.
The programme is expected to be screened on TV on March six, 2007.
The handloom directorate is hoping that the turnover of the handloom sector will touch Rs 500 crore in 2007-08.
