Odisha chief minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for a ₹3,000-crore Integrated Textiles Manufacturing Facility and Warehousing Complex by the Welspun Group in Choudwar, Cuttack district on Saturday. This facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 10,000 individuals in and around Choudwar.

“Happy to share that Welspun World is taking part in Odisha's growth story with investments across multiple business verticals. The ground-breaking ceremony of the first of the many facilities of Welspun World to come up in Odisha was conducted by Hon'ble CM, Shri Naveen Patnaikji,” Welspun Group chairman BK Goenka said in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).

In his address, CM Patnaik expressed optimism about the project's potential to restore Choudwar's historical prominence as a textile hub. "Choudwar will regain its stature as a thriving industrial centre," Patnaik affirmed.

Patnaik also underscored the benefits for cotton farmers across Kalahandi, Bolangir, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts and added that the facility will provide employment opportunities for women, according to various media reports.

The genesis of this transformative project traces back to the proactive collaboration between the state's industrial department, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL), and BK Goenka during the Make In Odisha programme in 2022.

"Through the Integrated Textiles Manufacturing Facility and Warehousing Complex, we want to create a world-class textiles ecosystem in Odisha and take forward the legacy of Biju Babu,” Goenka said on the occasion.
