As part of clean cotton program, an amount worth Rs 35 million has been set aside by the Federal Government for this prestigious project.
Under this project, production of 50,000 contamination free bales is targeted.
The Commerce and Textile Ministries had finalized the strategy and selected 31 ginning factories, mainly from Punjab and Sindh, informed a senior official.
Assisted by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), the Pakistan Cotton Standard Institute would analyze the quality of cottonseed of the 31 ginning factories.
To ensure a viable return for the grower is yet a dilemma and so Rs 50 per maund as premium has been fixed to produce contamination-free cottonseed, said Rizvi Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Federal Textile Secretary.
The government will offer Rs 30 a maund premium to 31 ginning factories on production of contamination-free cotton.
The Pakistan Cotton Standard Institute has asked Governments of Sindh and Punjab to make required changes in Cotton Control Act of 1966 so as to be able to produce contamination-free cotton.
