Cotton production in 'Franc Zone' of West and Central Africa is estimated to go down during fiscal 2005-06, compared to previous fiscal 2004-05.
Of the ten countries belonging to the zone for which estimates have been arrived at, convey that only Burkina Faso and Mali are going to register some growth in cotton production.
While other eight countries namely Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Chad, Togo, Senegal, Central African Republic and Niger are likely to record decline in their cotton output.
Total cotton production in 'Franc Zone' is expected to reach 4760000 bales in fiscal 2005-06, more than 2 percent decline from previous fiscal figures of 4885000 bales.
The estimate also reveals five-year average of cotton production in 'Franc Zone'. It shows cotton production of 4221000 bales, which indicates increase of 664000 bales in 2004-05.
This estimates show that Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Mali registered considerable growth in production during the fiscal 2004-05 compared to five-year average.
