Bt cotton farmers would be given special relief from Maharasthra Government as the farmers suffered loss of crop due to 'Lalya' disease in 2005-06 in the state, said Prem Kumar, Chief Secretary of the State.
Kumar added that the relief package (reimbursement in cash) would include only those farmers who lost minimum Bt crop of Rs1000 per hectare.
From the total provision of Rs200 crore, Rs25 crore had already been made available to be handed over through banks by March-end, informed Kumar.
He said that Maharashtra Government was also concerned about farmers' misery caused by money-lenders, who had given loans to them at higher interest rates in Amravati district. For this, Government plans to provide immediate monetary relief of Rs one lakh bereaved families of the farmers.
