Cotton production in Turkey is likely to go up next year as farmers are fed up with other crops like corn which did not fetch good returns for them.
Consequently, number of cotton harvesters will be increased and likely to reach 260 in marketing year 2006 in comparison to last year.
Farmers would not have to pluck cotton balls with hands and this practice would also decrease costs.
Increasing imports of cotton, especially from the US, has forced farmers to find new methods to make cotton production more feasible and to be able to compete with world cotton industry.
Government has also acknowledged the enthusiasm of farmers and released bonus of YTL 0.32 per kilo for 2005 seed cotton.
This bonus is 40 percent more than last year's bounty.
Government would also continue this bonus for seed cotton in 2006.
